Polyacrylamide is a water-soluble linear polymer formed by free radical polymerization of acrylamide (AM) monomer. It is insoluble in most organic solvents, has good flocculation and can reduce the friction resistance between liquids.

Polyacrylamide is a kind of all-purpose chemical raw material, which can be found in almost every industry. The flocculating performance of PAM is mainly due to the long molecular chain of polyacrylamide, and its amide group can affinity, adsorb and form hydrogen bonds with many substances. This enables PAM to bridge the two adsorbed particles, forming a "bridge connection" and generating flos, which is conducive to particle sinking. It has the advantages of low dosage, outstanding effect and high cost performance, so it is also the flocculant with the largest dosage.

Polyacrylamide can be used in various sewage treatment (for domestic sewage treatment using polyacrylamide is generally divided into two processes, one is the charge neutralization of polymer electrolyte and particle surface;Second, the long chains of polymer electrolyte form floc groups by bridging with particles. The main purpose of flocculation is to polymerize the fine suspended particles and colloidal particles in the sludge into larger flocculation groups by adding polyacrylamide. With the increase of flocs, the sedimentation rate increases gradually. Thus can better press mud through the filter press, and then meet the requirements of environmental protection treatment.PAM is a water-soluble organic polymer with components ranging from millions to tens of millions of macromolecules, which forms larger flocs between particles and generates huge surface adsorption.

If the treatment process is first biochemical and then materialized, the dosage of PAC is about 0.1% (national standard, 10% effective content), and PAM is about 1-3ppm, i.e., about 10 tons of PAC and pam10-30kg of PAC per 10,000 tons of water. If the process is first materialized and then biochemical, then the above dosage is doubled. The actual amount of adding varies according to the water quality and needs to be fine-tuned according to the site.PAC is polyaluminum chloride and PAM is polyacrylamide. The former is flocculant and the latter is coagulant aid.Generally, PAC is added first, followed by PAM. Sometimes acid or base may be added to adjust PH.The two are mainly used for coagulation sedimentation tank, that is, physical and chemical treatment section, commonly used in industrial wastewater treatment.
